McElroy Pit Bull 28 Butt Fusion Machine

Built for underground utility construction and applications where working space is limited, the McElroy Pit Bull® 28 Butt Fusion Machine combines portability, precise pipe alignment, and hydraulic fusion control in a versatile field-ready system.

The machine’s modular configuration allows the carriage, heater, facer, stand, and hydraulic power unit to be positioned independently. This gives operators greater freedom to arrange components around trenches, pits, existing infrastructure, and other jobsite obstacles.

McElroy’s patented Centerline Guidance System helps keep the pipe properly aligned throughout the fusion process for consistent joint quality. For applications requiring an even smaller footprint, the standard four-jaw carriage can be converted to a three-jaw configuration, providing additional flexibility when fusing fittings or working in restricted spaces.

Available in high-force and low-force configurations, the Pit Bull® 28 is suited for polyethylene pipe fusion across gas distribution, water infrastructure, industrial piping, and underground utility applications.

Key Features

2" IPS to 8" DIPS Fusion Range

Designed to fuse polyethylene pipe from 2" IPS through 8" DIPS, covering metric pipe sizes from 63 mm to 225 mm.

Compact In-Ditch Design

A space-conscious machine configuration makes the Pit Bull® 28 well suited for fusion work inside trenches, excavations, and other areas with limited access.

Convertible 4-Jaw and 3-Jaw Carriage

The carriage can be changed from its standard four-jaw setup to a more compact three-jaw configuration when additional clearance is needed.

Centerline Guidance System

McElroy's patented alignment technology helps maintain the pipe centerline during fusion, supporting accurate positioning and consistent joint quality.

Rigid Aluminum Construction

Durable aluminum construction helps re-round the pipe and maintain proper alignment throughout the fusion process.

Hydraulic Fusion System

Hydraulic operation provides controlled, consistent pressure during the fusion cycle to support repeatable fusion procedures.

Modular Machine Configuration

The carriage, heater, facer, stand, and hydraulic power unit can be positioned separately, giving operators greater flexibility when setting up equipment on restricted jobsites.

Combination Unit Available

An available Pit Bull® 28 Combination Unit expands the machine's capabilities to branch saddle fusion with maximum base diameters up to 9.63".

120V and 240V Options

Multiple voltage configurations provide additional flexibility for different jobsite power requirements.

Data Logging Compatibility

The Pit Bull® 28 supports fusion data logging systems for documenting fusion procedures and assisting with quality control and project recordkeeping.

Benefits

Improve Fusion Joint Consistency

Centerline Guidance technology helps maintain correct pipe positioning throughout the fusion process, supporting strong and repeatable polyethylene pipe joints.

Work More Effectively in Confined Areas

The compact carriage and modular component layout make the Pit Bull® 28 easier to position in trenches, pits, and congested underground construction environments.

Adapt to More Installation Requirements

Converting between four-jaw and three-jaw configurations gives crews added flexibility when working with fittings, tees, elbows, adapters, and difficult-to-access pipe.

Support More Productive Fusion Work

Controlled hydraulic pressure helps operators achieve repeatable results throughout the fusion cycle while reducing the potential for errors and unnecessary rework.

Handle Demanding Field Conditions

Rugged aluminum construction and durable machine components are designed for the conditions commonly encountered during utility, pipeline, and underground construction work.

Simplify Transport and Jobsite Positioning

Separating the machine into individual components makes equipment easier to transport, carry, and arrange compared with larger self-contained fusion systems.

FAQ

What pipe sizes can the McElroy Pit Bull® 28 fuse?

The McElroy Pit Bull® 28 is designed for polyethylene pipe sizes ranging from 2″ IPS to 8″ DIPS, or 63 mm to 225 mm.

Can the McElroy Pit Bull® 28 be used for in-ditch pipe fusion?
